who we are

Discover Downtown Westbrook is Maine’s 10th Main Street community. The organization was formed as the Downtown Westbrook Coalition in November 2014 as a Downtown Network community, and received its official Main America Street accreditation from the Maine Downtown Center on November 9, 2017. On that evening we also changed our name to something more action-oriented: Discover Downtown Westbrook! We use the Four-Point Approach framework created by the National Main Street Center, which was established by the National Trust in 1980. This national group has a proven successful record at downtown revitalization, with thousands of volunteer-driven organizations all around the country.

The Westbrook Common

Discover Downtown Westbrook and the City of Westbrook are working to create a space worth visiting by offering programs, increasing access to local businesses, and encouraging community.

what's

happening

The ice disk, wessie, & more

Located on the Presumpscot River in Westbrook, Maine. The “spinning” (actually slowly rotating) disk was huge – about 300 feet (100 meters) in size – making it one of the largest, if not the largest, one on record. Originally started in 2019 but occurred in 2020 briefly.

engagement with the city

Discover Downtown Westbrook collaborates with municipal organizations, including city hall on various projects. Together with the support of the city we have helped on projects ranging from business improvement projects to event planning. We hope to continue to find new ways to help the city of Westbrook grow and expand our downtown.

our craft beer scene

We are super proud of our beer scene! Discover Downtown Westbrook has participated in the ribbon cuttings for both Mast Landing & Yes Brewing. If you have not experienced what we have to offer it is worth the trip. Last year Mast Landing alone produced over 100 different types of beer.

engaging youth & community

Discover Downtown Westbrook also supports our community events and schools. We are bringing a Westbrook High School student to participate on the executive board level so that we will have a well rounded view of the community needs.

restaurant & Pub Scene

The restaurant scene in Westbrook is gaining momentum and led by some well established master chefs. Come check out Casa Novella, The Frog & Turtle, Blazes Burgers, The Fajita Grill, Portland Pie, Legends Rest, The Stockhouse, Profenno's and more.

our awesome events

Discover Downtown Westbrook organizes and runs several events throughout the year. Feel free to check out our events section on this website to learn more about the current schedule. If you are interested in helping out with one of these events feel free to contact us. Run the Ridge, Winterfest and Feast of the Falls are all wonderful events.

our unique history

This corner of Main and Bridge, was 1st named  Rudy Vallée Square in 1930 and was rededicated in 2009. At the 2009 dedication, Eleanor Vallée, Rudy’s widow, and William Vallée, Rudy’s nephew, unveiled the statue of Rudy.

making volunteering fun

Our Leadership

Board President, Dori Lam

Dori has been a resident of Westbrook since 2011 and joined the board of DDW because she’s passionate about showing people all of the things about Westbrook that she loves that make it such an awesome place to live. In her day-to-day life she helps run a nonprofit senior center in Kennebunk, and loves hiking, beer, and spending time with her daughter and her dogs (and other people’s dogs…really any dogs she can find!) Prior to being DDW President, she served as Secretary and co-Vice President of DDW and also chairs the Nominating Committee and the Run the River Committee, and belongs to the Executive Committee, the Organization Committee, and the Art Committee. Dori is excited to continue to work with the local businesses, the City, and the community to make Westbrook a thriving, welcoming, inclusive, and fun place for all!

a river runs

through us

The Presumpscot River flows right through the heart of Westbrook and just along main street. The waterway and the city have been intertwined since the area’s first settlers, came here looking for a source of power and food. With the river, they found both.
